About Us

Mission: To build a pro-active and sustainable organizational capacity through training of peers, mobilization of resources, and effective engagement of all people to foster awareness and prevent the spread, effect of HIV/AIDS,Drug Abuse and unhealth environment to all communities in Uganda. Kawempe Youth Development Association (KYDA) is a typically a child focus organizations by its identity. It operates in two districts of Kampala in the slum areas of Kawempe Division, The Peri urban areas of Wakiso District, specifically, Wakiso, Nansana and Nabweru Town councils, Rural Wakiso areas of Gombe, Nangabo and Busukuma sub counties. We also operate a reproductive health clinic in Luweero and BEE honey project in Mukono districts all in central Uganda. KYDA was formed in 2005, to perform activities to perform activities that are beneficial to vulnerable children , young people and other concerned adults through mass media, community, person to person communication. KYDA's current strategic plan (CSP) 2008-2013 is in line with Uganda's national orphans and other vulnerable children (OVC) strategic plan that aims at achieving a comprehensive national plan of interventions (NPPI) and a national orphans and other vulnerable children's policy(NOP) that results into sustainable reduction of HIV/AIDS orphans, improve access to quality OVC services, care and support, planning skills, life and vocation skills to all orphans and vulnerable young people and their host families. GOAL OF THE CSP. -To strengthen the urban sum,Peri urban and rural community interventions for HIV+ orphans, the vulnerable and other impoverished children and house holds. As a result, operations over the years have hinged along the categories of OVC core program areas of; -Sustaining livelihoods i.e social economic security mainly to families who host OVCs. -Food and nutrition support. -Care and support. Linking OVCs to social services especially education - Healthy -Psycho social support -Also strengthening and enhancing policy to deliver through policy frame work e.g child protection -Legal support, - child rights advocacy. ACTIVITIES IN GENERAL: -sustaining livelihood for OVCs and their Host families. -Child support initiatives e.g free distribution of mosquito nets, basins, blankets -Promoting Youth Income Generating Activities (IGAs) -Psycho social support to OVCs and their care givers - Empowering girls 10- 18 years out of school and living in poverty/ commercial survival sex. -HIV/ AIDS and drug abuse prevention -Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health out reaches targeting young men 15-24 years. -Peace Education and child rights advocacy among hard to reach young people especially CSWs. -Community out reaches in relation to immunization of infants to prevent the six killer diseases, contrinoxazole, Adherence and paediatric ART among others. - Life skills education and Talent Development in sports, Music, dance and drama, foot ball, net ball and beach volley ball. Vocational skill's training especially in hair dressing, tailoring and designing, fabric making and improved crafts. - International Youth volunteer exchange program (VEP) peace, mutual cooperation and cultural exchange- Foreign Exchange visitors are charged as follows: - for one month 300 Euros - Medium term volunteers 250 euros ( each month for three months) -Long term volunteers 200 Euros ( from 4 months and above) These participation fees includes: -transport to and from the airport -Accommodation, -Feeding and Laundry -Welcome cultural dance/galla -Project development fee
