About Us

West Side Campaign Against Hunger is a community-based emergency food program and social service agency located at 263 West 86 Street, New York, NY 10024. Through a customer-cooperative, supermarket style food pantry, WSCAH alleviates hunger and creates a culture that promotes self reliance and works for change. WSCAH changes our perception of hungry people by working in partnership with them, providing food with dignity, and empowering customers to find solutions.

As a category leader in emergency food pantry innovation, WSCAH focuses on long-term improvements. WSCAH has built a team of social service counselors who work with customers to help them toward self-sufficiency. WSCAH has created a network of social service partners, onsite and off, who greatly increase our ability to connect customers to programs that help. In addition, WSCAH has developed in-house chef training, exercise and E.S.L programs.

By launching the first supermarket style food pantry, and our factual analysis of the nutritional value of pantry food, WSCAH has improved the style and quality of emergency food at federal, state and city levels. By accurate data collection of customer referrals and outcomes, WSCAH has developed new and effective social service partnerships.
