Children's Heart Foundation

About Us

The Children’s Heart Foundation (CHF) is the leading national organization solely committed to funding congenital heart defect (CHD) research. Our mission is to fund the most promising research to advance the treatment, prevention and diagnosis of CHDs. Since 1996 CHF has independently or jointly funded approximately 100 research projects totaling over $11.1 million dollars.

Congenital heart defects are the most common and deadliest birth defect in the United States, affecting nearly 1 in 100 babies, or approximately 40,000 each year in the U.S. alone. Between 2 and 3 million Americans are living with CHDs. Despite advances in medicine, 15% of children with CHDs do not live past their 18th birthday, and those who do will face lifelong health challenges. Despite these needs, life-saving CHD research remains severely underfunded.

However, through the generous support of donors, supporters and sponsors, we are making a difference. Our grants have contributed toward improved survival rates through better diagnosis and earlier interventions, developing pioneering treatments and procedures that are saving and improving lives, and a greater understanding of the causes of CHDs that are helping to lower incidences.
