Des Plaines Friends of the Parks

    The Des Plaines Friends of the Parks is a non-profit that supports the efforts of the Des Plaines Park District. The DP Friends provide scholarships to the youth of Des Plaines to enable them to use the park district’s programs. Around 55% of the students in (elementary) District 62 qualify for free or reduced meals, so the families of Des Plaines need financial support to encourage healthy, active lifestyles. In just four years, the DP Friends have provided nearly $45,000.00 worth of scholarships!  

    Volunteers are needed for monthly events, like the “Winter Wonderland Cookie Decorating” (1-3 hours per event), and for our annual “Golf in the Dark at Lake Park” scholarship fundraiser (3+ hours day of event, plus additional hours for planning through the year). No experience is necessary. High school and college students may volunteer for our monthly events and receive student learning (volunteer) hours.
