We Bring Nature Indoors!

Eldergrow is currently looking to partner with an Educator in the greater Newtown area (zip codes include 02462, 02459, 02458, 02445, and 02135). Eldergrow offers a therapeutic connection to nature through innovative horticultural classes and services to seniors living in long-term care and skilled nursing communities.

Eldergrow Educators are friendly, outgoing, and enthusiastic! An ideal candidate is comfortable being in a dementia care setting, speaking in front of groups, performing garden maintenance, training staff, and leading therapeutic horticulture classes while following the health and safety protocols of the senior living communities. This role is largely about being a conversationalist and making a connection with seniors (often people living with dementia) while building relationships with the community staff.

Eldergrow Educators are Independent Contractors:

• This is a part-time contract position with long-term opportunities. Currently, the time commitment is approximately 27-28 hours per month to teach classes and maintain gardens at 5 communities.

• Contractors set their own schedule in collaboration with the communities they serve but must be flexible if COVID restrictions change and hours are temporarily reduced.

• A stipend is paid based on the number of gardens managed at approx. $20-21/hour.

Skills and Qualification include:

• Intermediate gardening skills.

• Experience working with people living with physical and/or cognitive limitations; dementia care and skilled nursing experience a plus.

• Must have access to dependable internet, a computer, and a color printer.

• Must have experience using email and Google Apps such as Google Drive.

• We require that educators upload photos after every visit, so a smartphone is helpful.

• Able to pass a background check to work with vulnerable populations.

• Insured vehicle required - you will drive to communities that have signed up for our service and occasionally pick up gardening supplies.

• Must be able to stand for at least an hour at a time.

• Able to kneel/bend down to maintain the garden.

• Must be able to push a large 400 lb. mobile garden on wheels (not lift).

• Must be able to lift a 40 lb. bag of soil.

• Be able to agree to a one-year commitment.

• Must be willing to join and participate in the community Facebook group.

To be considered, reply to this posting and include your resume along with a personal statement as to why this role interests you and how you meet the qualifications listed above. Thank you.
