Managing Editor

Anti-Racism Daily is looking to hire a full-time Managing Editor to oversee the day-to-day execution of our daily newsletter. This candidate will work alongside our founder and Editor-In-Chief to ensure our content is sharp, insightful, relevant, and actionable. This role is a salaried, full-time position including benefits, and open to anyone based in the U.S. Starting salary is $75,000.

You will manage the editorial strategy including identifying key issues to cover and assign to the writing team, along with the day-to-day execution. This includes moving each newsletter through the editorial process, setting and enforcing deadlines with writers, providing editing support as needed, and managing our newsletter content calendar. You’ll report directly to Nicole Cardoza, Editor-in-Chief.

Responsibilities

• Manage the editorial calendar and scheduling of each daily newsletter, published at 6:30a each day of the week
• Write 1-2 emails a week
• Oversee copy flow; providing approval of final pieces before publication
• Add and curate our published newsletters to our website
• Supervise our freelance writers, and Assistant Editor
• Work alongside our Editor-in-Chief to inform our content calendar on social media and other owned platforms

The ideal Managing Editor has the following qualities:

• Passionate about the issues we cover in our newsletter, including and not limited to racial and gender justice and equity, abolition, environmental justice, disability rights, etc.
• Thrives in a fast paced environment
• Informed and educated on current events in the United States and globally
• Organized and detail-oriented
• Enjoys both writing and editing and has a proven track record for both
• Deep newsroom expertise and fluent in leading the editorial process
• Familiarity with email newsletters and Mailchimp
• Comfortable working with Google Docs, Slack, and Trello
