National Co+op Grocers (NCG) is a member-owned business service cooperative providing a variety of services to retail food co-ops in 39 states. NCG helps unify food co-ops in order to optimize operational and marketing resources, strengthen purchasing power, and offer more value to food co-op shoppers everywhere.


We are seeking an energetic, organized and detail-oriented individual with some previous exposure to HR responsibilities and a passion for helping employees and applicants. This newly created position will assist the HR Manager administratively in the delivery of high-quality human resources activities and related services in the functional areas of recruitment, employment, benefits, performance management and compliance. Experience with recruitment, including DEI initiatives, and familiarity with FMLA highly preferred.


This entry level position is ideal for high functioning administrative assistants with exposure to some human resources who are interested in the success of food co-ops, their suppliers, and their communities. This position is eligible for home office remote work within a commutable distance to NCG’s headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota. An office is available if preferred over remote work. This position requires up to 5% business travel including overnights and weekends (when business travel resumes more broadly). Diverse applicants are encouraged to apply.


St. Paul is part of the major metropolitan area which along with Minneapolis is known as the Twin Cities. The area is known for its excellent parks, bike trails and other outdoor activities; vibrant arts, culture and dining scene; and cultural diversity. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Be a help desk resource for employees pertaining to policy and benefit related questions.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding and off-boarding activities.
  • Assist with revisions and maintenance of job descriptions. Receive, review, track and scan/file annual and mid-year performance review forms.
  • Administer FMLA paperwork and track FMLA designated time in employee timecards.
  • Assist with benefits administration and open enrollment.
  • Administer employee recognition program.
  • Coordinate workplace employment posters and required notices for all NCG locations.
  • Coordinate annual onsite flu vaccination clinic.
  • Process workers’ compensation claims and assist with management of claim.
  • Assist the Meeting & Events staff with planning fun activities for staff.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum one year experience in a human resources or equivalent role, previous experience with recruitment strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience using MS Office products, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel required.
  • Familiarity using various payroll, HRIS and/or applicant tracking systems preferred.
  • Organized; excellent attention to detail and accuracy is a must.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality required; familiarity of HIPAA regulations and requirements preferred.
  • Ability to understand, administer, and comply with HR policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use computer keyboard, mouse, telephone and various office equipment or adaptive technologies that produce the same results.
  • Hear, speak and effectively communicate verbally and in writing in the English language in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization.
