Position Overview:

The Director of Compliance and Responsible Sourcing is responsible for leading the company’s vendor compliance and responsible sourcing programs. This includes policy development, supplier selection and evaluation to verify ongoing compliance, oversight and assessment of internal and external audit results, corrective action plans, and driving a continuous improvement process for the company and its vendors to improve performance on key responsible sourcing metrics. The position oversees the social and environmental impact of the company’s sourcing practices. The Director of Compliance and Responsible Sourcing is also responsible for creating and implementing team training and educational programs, and playing a leadership role in the company’s charitable giving efforts.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of driving and implementing responsible sourcing policies, making process improvements, implementing best practices and procedures, and maintaining vendor compliance within a complex and rapidly growing organization. With demonstrated ability to be effective with finite resources, the ideal candidate for this role thrives in fast-paced start-up environments and is comfortable operating in a very hands-on and collaborative fashion. Key Responsibilities: 

• Provide strategic vision and leadership in the development and execution of comprehensive strategies, programs and initiatives relating to the company’s responsible sourcing, vendor compliance and giving back efforts.
• Develop and implement processes to standardize sourcing programs and drive compliance related standards, policies and procedures, change management protocols and best practices within Brilliant Earth’s supply chain.  
• Identify, develop and deepen key industry partnerships to build awareness of key responsible sourcing issues and drive change among key industry stakeholders.
• Drive focused improvements in our responsible sourcing and compliance programs in collaboration with relevant cross functional teams, including Operations, Marketing, Finance and Legal.
• Serve as compliance subject matter expert, collaborating with suppliers and business partners to evaluate and report on compliance efforts, ensuring alignment supplier practices with company strategies and policies. 
• Continually review supplier base and geographic sourcing profile to ensure alignment with evolving company sourcing standards.  Identify priority business partners to pursue business relationships with.
• Oversee compliance team members in onboarding new suppliers and training existing suppliers, driving supplier action to continually improve their systems, processes and procedures. Oversee implementation of supplier operational changes required to maintain compliance with Brilliant Earth’s responsible sourcing standards.
• Update and maintain metrics related to compliance efforts. Ensure all reporting requirements and goals are being met.
• Lead in-house and external auditing processes.
• Grow internal and external team as appropriate to support responsible sourcing and compliance efforts.

Specific Qualifications:

• 5-7+ years of experience in a responsible sourcing and/or vendor compliance role, with experience in corporations with social and environmentally focused programs (with at least 3 years of experience in a managerial capacity)
• Extensive knowledge of material sourcing and verification of material traceability
• Excellent understanding of compliance principles, reporting and experiencing improving compliance standards
• Experience implementing and managing 3rd party audits including audits of suppliers
• Experience maintaining strong relationships with key industry partners including NGO’s
• Outstanding reporting and communications skills regarding responsible sourcing and compliance programs
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
• High standards of accuracy and precision; highly organized
• Intermediate experience with ERP systems preferred, NetSuite a plus
• BA/BS required; graduate degree preferred
• Existing relationships in the precious metals and diamond/gemstone industries preferred

The targeted budget for this position is $100-160K. This compensation budget range may be adjusted at any time at the discretion of the company.
