About the Center for Empowered Politics (CEP) and CEP Education Fund

The Center for Empowered Politics and the sister organization the Center for Empowered Politics Education Fund​ is a practitioner-led movement capacity organization that trains and develops new leaders of color to grow their power building and co-governing infrastructure. In addition, CEPEF provides capacity building support (i.e. executive coaching, peer coaching, organizational development, fund development) for fiscally-sponsored projects.

Position Overview:

The Movement Technology Manager provides broad support and leadership to advance the development and utilization of technology at the Chinese Progressive Association (CPA), the Center for Empowered Politics (CEP), and all CPA’s and CEP’s fiscally sponsored projects, referenced here forward as “the orbit”. The Movement Technology Manager recruits, coordinates and manages teams to be able to effectively advance work in core areas mentioned below, and will have the expertise, tenacity and grace to independently advance work.

Role and Responsibilities: 

Tech team management and development 50%


  • Manage and grow 2 FTE on support subteam, and 2 part-time staff on the custom solutions subteam, consultants, and volunteers to achieve desired outcomes
  • Cultivate tech team members’ leadership capacities within movement technology work
  • Identify and work to address gaps in team capacity

Project Management

  • Set priorities across disparate areas of tech work
  • Proactively manage stakeholder requests; make appropriate staffing decisions to support anticipated workload
  • Anticipate and plan for new and emerging tech needs in the orbit
  • Develop structures and processes to meet the needs for the orbit

Movement Technology Vision

  • Champion and steward vision for technology’s place in movement work and power building
  • Cultivate orientation to tech that people have the capacity to learn and meet their own tech needs

Custom solutions product ownership and implementation 20%

  • Propose and implement creative solutions to existing systems to ease organizers’ strain
  • Translate organizers’ vision to meaningful tech solutions, building out custom flows in existing Software-as-a-Service platforms, with understanding of the orbit’s political and cultural context

Organizational technology planning and utilization 10%:

  • Develop and provide holistic technology assessments and recommendations to organizations. Areas covered by assessments may include but not limited to: security and system/data integrity; office and remote work infrastructure; cloud software; data management; staff training; and best standards and practices.
  • Support and coordinate the implementation of recommendations as needed
  • Support Campaign Technology Planning and Utilization

Thought leadership and community building for movement technology and technologists 10%

  • Seek to develop and expand own view of movement technology
  • Thought leadership and strategic intervention in the role of technology as a tool of oppression or liberation
  • Field and community building for movement technology and technologists 
  • Thought leadership and strategic intervention in the role of technology as a tool of oppression or liberation

Additional responsibilities and shared responsibilities 10%

  • Participate and/or facilitate workshops or trainings at conferences
  • Prepare reports of activities for organizational and fund development needs
  • Participate in staff activities for planning and evaluation as needed
  • Support other campaigns, programs and organization-wide activities as needed
  • This position may also include spending time on organizational-wide (such as electoral campaigns) and fundraising tasks as determined by organizational priorities and your supervisor.

Some experience preferred with the following:

  • Technical product ownership
  • Information Technology policies and procedures
  • Team management, including but not limited to staffing (supervising, recruiting, hiring), prioritizing (setting and adjusting priorities across different areas of tech team work), stakeholder management
