Summary:

The Urban Canopy is a young, diverse organization working on cutting edge issues at the intersection of urban agriculture and sustainable food. We are seeking a leader of the Compost Club branch in support of our vision: to create a sustainable and equitable food system by way of environmental stewardship, local job creation, healthy-living initiatives, and community building.

Compost Club plays a key role in achieving our vision by diverting food waste from landfills and processing it into nutrient rich soil for our farm and other local growers. The branch is quickly growing with exponential growth potential. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in logistics and organization and a passion for sustainable urban food systems. 


Duties and Responsibilities: 

Guide the execution of our Residential, Commercial and Event composting services - 70%

  1. Oversee and execute or delegate all aspects of current services, particularly account management                
  2. Hire, train, and manage new members of the Compost Club admin team 
  3. Establish and revise policies to foster efficiency within the branch
  4. Develop a yearly budget and monitor cash flow

Facilitate expansion of current services - 15%

  1. Contribute to developing internal systems that maintain and support growth                             
  2. Create and execute marketing projects
  3. Design and refine the service’s brand

Organizational Support and Development - 15%

  1. Maintain communication and collaboration with the organizing leads of the Urban Canopy and all of its Branches
  2. Help develop and maintain a healthy, happy work culture

Qualifications: 

  • At least a year of experience managing a group of people in a for-profit or nonprofit setting
  • Computer skills, including Point of Sales systems, Google Docs Suite and MS Office Suite
  • Coding literacy (Excel/Java/HTML) is not required, but very beneficial
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and handle uncertainty
  • Highly motivated with documented interest and experience in waste reduction and sustainability


Position Details: 

This year-round position constitutes ~30 to 40 hours per work week. Candidates should expect to also be involved in executing the deliveries and pickups of Compost Club. A typical schedule includes 3-4 days in the office and 1-2 days on the road between Monday and Friday but is flexible. Weekend work is also available.
