We seek a smart, highly motivated, highly adaptable employee to join our 16-person company. We are looking for the right person to work with regional centers, direct service providers, state Medicaid and developmental disabilities agencies, and federal partners at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on health, safety and quality of life for people with disabilities. The position will be funded about two-thirds through our work as the risk management and mitigation contractor for the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) with additional support from our work for CMS on the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Settings Final Rule and other projects.

Responsibilities in the Area of Developmental Disabilities:

  1. Identify process improvements and other intervention strategies that vendors can use to prevent abuse, neglect, medication errors and other incidents in long-term residential care, supported living services or day programs
  • Review special incident reports and work with data analysts to identify common issues and settings with higher than average incidents
  • Engage with quality assurance and clinical staff at California’s 21 regional centers on current strategies and innovative practices
  • Participate in site visits to vendors around California to assess processes
  • Conduct research on solutions identified in other states or settings

2. Develop tools and supporting materials to promote intervention strategies to regional centers and vendors

  • Vet draft tools with DDS and regional center staff
  • Develop roll-out/implementation plan for new tools
  • Present tools in webinars and in-person trainings

3. Draft web and newsletter content on health and safety topics for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, their supporters and direct service providers

  • Develop written and visual materials for the DDSSafety.net website
  • Manage internal staff on content development process, editing and social media
  • Work with outside consultants on videos for web site
  • Help coordinate revamping and rebranding of website
  • Develop approach to vet content with self-advocates
  • Attend conferences to promote website and other project activities

4. Partner with research and analysis staff to guide and document project activities

5.  Assist in tracking project deliverables

Responsibilities in the Area of HCBS Settings:

  • Assist in reviewing State Transition Plans and other materials for compliance with the Final Rule
  • Identify best practices across states and common challenges in developing and implementing State Transition Plans
  • Develop technical assistance materials for webinars and web posting
  • Participate in site visits to States as needed

The position will also support other Mission Analytics projects in the area of Medicaid long-term supports and services and developmental and physical disabilities as needed. The candidate may also assist senior staff in proposal writing and other business development in these topic areas.


This is a full-time position with benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance and company 401k contributions. Candidates are expected to work from our San Francisco office. We are open to less than 100% time, but 30 hours per week is required to receive health benefits
