Reports to: Head of NDWA Labs

FLSA Status: Exempt

Location: Flexible/Remote

Start Date: Immediate

NDWA Labs is the innovation arm of the National Domestic Workers Alliance, one of the country’s leading progressive social movement organizations. At NDWA Labs, we’re building products that transform domestic work jobs into good jobs by bringing respect, living wages, and benefits to an invisible, undervalued, and vulnerable part of the economy. Rather than optimizing within the status quo, NDWA Labs leverages tech to disrupt power and fundamentally change the ways in which work is organized and paid, for the millions of women and immigrants in the domestic work industry. Our flagship platform Alia Benefits extends a paid time off and a safety net to informal, gig, and cash workers for the first time.

NDWA Labs is seeking an experienced leader with exceptional communication skills to develop and implement our approach to monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL). The Learning and Evaluation Director will be the first role of its kind within NDWA Labs. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of social enterprise and social change movements and is excited to work with our teams to creatively develop new ways of collecting information and measuring the effectiveness of our cross-disciplinary work. The director will excel at using a broad range of both quantitative and qualitative tools and methods and is comfortable operating concurrently at several levels of analysis. The person in this role is very self-directed, a careful listener, and a sharp observational and indirect learner. They are always seeking out the right resources and information to answer complex questions with both rigor and elegance. The Learnings and Evaluations Director will have a keen eye for design and storytelling, and is excited to share our learnings and approach to measuring impact. This position will be embedded within several projects with a primary focus on Alia Benefits and our overall functioning as a lab.

You can read more about Alia in Fast Company & NPR, and more about the domestic worker movement in the New York Times.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess the NDWA Labs’ capacity and needs in the area of monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL), and work with the Director and other key stakeholders to establish a coherent and comprehensive MEL strategy and framework
  • Engage with program teams to help them envision, embed, and experiment with creative methods for learnings and impact measurement into the solutions they’re delivering at the prototype, pilot, and implementation phases
  • Monitor our progress against stated impact and learning goals and support organization-wide learning by regularly sharing data-driven insights and partnering with teams to translate them into new practices
  • Analyze, synthesize, and produce key insights and overarching narrative that can easily inform multiple audiences—from domestic workers to philanthropic partners, academic and program partners to press and other external partners
  • Serve as the main point of contact to external partners requesting summaries, updates, and presentations regarding our learnings and impact, in collaboration with the development team
  • Other responsibilities as determined by the Labs Director

Qualifications

  • Must have at least 5 years prior experience leading metrics and evaluation efforts in a social sector organization, preferably in a fast-paced social change or advocacy context

  • Clear, concise communicator with impeccable written skills
  • Must be able to expertly design and facilitate processes that surface rich data and insights while efficiently managing time and resources
  • Keen ability to synthesize and present complex data in a simple, compelling, meaningful way (ability to produce beautiful and top-notch data visualization is a plus)
  • Understanding of issues facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, and other communities of color
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
