Research Operations Manager

Beacon Economics seeks a Research Operations Managerto join its growing team. S/he will have primary responsibility for a variety of tasks critical to the operation of the research division. This position actively offers the opportunity for professional development and growth. The Research Operations Managerwill serve as a liaison across multiple practice areas, direct independent projects, and work in a variety of capacities in support of and close collaboration with the Research Director and the Managing Partner. This is a strategic and leadership role within the organization and will work closely with the research leadership team to set direction for the group, improve operations and communications, and ensure the team is strategically aligned with broader firm goals. It is expected research operations responsibilities will require 40 – 80% of time and the remaining 20 – 60% will be focused on research priorities, research and development, and execution based on industry interest, experience and firm priorities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Product Manager: Standardization of Products and Database
o Manage a small portfolio of project engagements (standardized products): Manage the engagement’s resources, project deliverable schedule, budget adherence, client updates, and internal updates and reporting; Edit final deliverables and manage client feedback including any necessary revisions;
o Contribute to the ongoing standardization of these products and their data inputs
- Perform a direct reporting role for Senior Research and Research Associates as directed.
Supervisor: Departmental Administration and Systems Creation
- Manage internal operations ranging, i.e. reporting structure, creating and communicating new processes for research team;
o Create, manage, and support processes and procedures that streamline operational efficiency and improve final deliverable quality.
Strategic Advisor: Strategic Planning and Implementation
- Define and manage goal-setting process and monitoring for department and Practice Areas;
o Coordinate, follow-up, and lead execution of strategic initiatives;
o Elevate issues about which the COO should be aware, and offer ideas to resolve issues and mitigate the risk;
o Collaborate with Director of Research to coordinate staff professional development activities;
o Develop and implement a Project Manager Training Program that builds off of the PM Onboarding plan and leverages in-house expertise to build skills amongst research staff;
o Manage research staff involvement in infrastructure building across Practice Areas;
o Assisting new hires with onboarding.
Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, or similar. Strong conceptual, as well as quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
Ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations and tight deadlines; ability to think outside of the box and develop novel strategies; ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment; ability to work comfortably with a wide variety of people at different levels within the organization
Data management, including collecting and cleaning data from a variety of data sources and performing data management tasks to prepare data for analysis; a strong understanding of one or several programming languages;
