Traveller Not Tourist

We at Traveller Not Tourist are committed to supporting locally run projects - especially those caring for vulnerable children and their families and communities. In addition, we aim to provide a supportive environment in which foreign travellers can undertake meaningful volunteer work in order to engage with the Peruvian people and culture.

The main project we support is a Children's Home which is managed and run by a local organisation. Full-time, local volunteers provide a stable, nurturing home for the children until they are able to return to their familial home (if it is deemed to be within their best interests to do so), placed with other family members or adopted. We place foreign volunteers of all ages and backgrounds in this project to help the full-time volunteers and improve the quality of life of the children. Traveller Not Tourist volunteers live in dedicated volunteer accommodation in the beautiful Peruvian city of Arequipa and are supported by the in-country Manager and her team. Volunteers may also choose to take advantage of optional Spanish lessons and/or travel opportunities.
