Board of Advisors: Designing Dreams

Mission:

Designing Dreams create healing spaces for children with cancer bringing hope and happiness to their families ♥.

Our principal activity is to redesign bedrooms for children with cancer, and cancer-like conditions, at their home. We completely transform the bedroom by painting murals, purchasing new furniture, choosing an overall theme, and more, to meet the desires of the child and his or her family.

Description: 

Designing Dreams Board of Advisors is a group of talented, passionate, young professionals committing their time and talents to inspiring hope and happiness in kids actively fighting cancer. 

Each member of the Board of Advisors is required to serve on either the Marketing & Fundraising Committee or the Program & Expansion Committee.

About you: You are a fun-loving, passionate, enthusiastic, mission-driven young professional looking to make a difference, build friendships, and contribute to our mission in a meaningful way. You are eager to bring your ideas and energy to a start-up non-profit organization with a bright future. You have the time to commit to meeting preparation, meeting attendance, and post-meeting deliverables. 

*This is a virtual Board of Advisors, we accepted applications from anywhere in the United States and will hold our meetings via video conference.*

Ideal Marketing & Fundraising Committee Member:

There will be a chair or co-chairs for this committee that will set the agenda before the meeting, take notes during the meeting, as well as share the minutes with the committee and set action items after each meeting. The chair/ co-chairs will report to Designing Dream’s Executive Director. The ideal makeup of this committee includes young professionals with experience in:

  • Marketing/ Digital marketing / Digital fundraising 
  • Social media 
  • Major gift program officer
  • Grant writer
  • Copy editor/ Content writer
  • Graphic design / photography / videography 
  • Corporate partnerships
  • Peer-to-peer fundraising
  • Cause marketing

Ideal Programs & Expansion Committee Member:

There will be a chair or co-chairs for this committee that will set the agenda before the meeting, take notes during the meeting, as well as share the minutes with the committee and set action items after each meeting. The chair/ co-chairs will report to Designing Dream’s Executive Director. The ideal makeup of this committee includes young professionals with experience in:

  • Child life specialist
  • Professionals in the pediatric oncology space
  • Interior Design
  • Parent of pediatric cancer patient 
  • Non-profit consultant with experience in program scalability
  • Start-up non-profit Executive Directors

Board of Advisor Requirements:

Meetings:

  • Each Committee will meet monthly for 1-hour. These committee meetings are mandatory, missing more than 2 committee meetings per year will result in the removal from the Board of Advisors
  • Committee Meeting Schedule: 
  • Marketing & Fundraising Committee: The 1st Tuesday of each month at 5pm PST/7pm CST/ 8pm EST
  • Programs & Expansion Committee: The 3st Tuesday of each month at 5pm PST/7pm CST/ 8pm EST
  • Committee meetings take place via video conference on zoom. Please ensure you have the capability to turn your video on
  • Each meeting will feature an optional creative cocktail with the receipt sent out 1 week prior to the meeting (feel free to bring your drink of choice as well)
  • In addition to Monthly Committee Meetings, there are mandatory Quarterly Board of Advisors Meetings (January, April, July, October)

Networking: As members of the Board of Advisors, we are counting on you to share our missing with your network. We expect you will:

  • Share all fundraising campaigns via email and social media with family, friends, and peers
  • Post once per month about Designing Dreams on your personal instagram account (story or post)

Fundraising: We are a lean organization and depend on our volunteers to help raise funds to complete bedroom transformations for kids fighting cancer. We ask all Board of Advisors to help us reach our fundraising goals. Our fundraising expectations include:

  • $500 minimum give or get per year per year, to reach this you can:
  • Run a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign to raise $500 annually
  • Join monthly giving program at $12/month, get 3 friends to join at $10/month
  • Join monthly giving program at $42/month
  • Donate $500 annually

Term limits: 2 years with the option to renew for another 2 years
