Darfur Women Action Group (DWAG) is taking a unique approach to fight and prevent genocide. DWAG believes that empowering the most affected groups to be the leaders who foster positive change in their communities is the smartest approach to sustainably end genocide.

Our Rapid Response Network connects dedicated volunteers across the United States, providing education and advocacy materials to support volunteers in raising awareness of the Darfuri genocide. Whenever the Sudanese government partakes in human rights abuses and international law violations, DWAG seeks to mobilize our rapid responders to educate and notify the public in-person and through social media in order to pressure the Sudanese government and other appropriate governments and policymakers to take the necessary action immediately.

Main responsibilities:

  • Become a voice for DWAG in your home state/country (DWAG ambassador)
  • Facilitate networking and participate in the local events of DWAG in your community
  • Help DWAG raise awareness on the crisis happening in Darfur, through distributing DWAG education materials, facilitating conference calls, hosting video screenings, lobbying with your local elected officials, or any other means of activism,
  • Organize fundraising events in your community
  • Attend DWAG events when available
  • Connect with Darfuri and Sudanese refugees in your state and learn about their personal experiences.

Rapid Responders operate largely, but not exclusively, on social media to increase the scope of their influence. We ask that Rapid Responders engage with DWAG’s social media accounts, as well as utilizing their own, to expand the scope of their audience. Rapid Responders are encouraged to share news articles and events on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. We also encourage Rapid Responders to share their own stories about how they became involved in anti-genocide advocacy. Through social media attention, we can increase awareness and work toward ending this ongoing genocide.

Joining the Rapid Response Network:

  1. To sign up to be a Rapid Responder, e-mail campaign@darfurwomenaction.org and provide your name, e-mail, city and state of residence.
  2. Receive training from DWAG leaders to be a DWAG ambassador in your state.
  3. Upon becoming a trained member, you may utilize our suggested ideas of engagement or develop your own ideas to raise awareness.
