By joining the Ten Thousand Villages Goshen team you will be directly supporting our mission to create opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to our markets through long-term fair trading relationships. Volunteer associates work with other staff members to help customers enjoy their shopping experience. Selling handmade goods is how we support our artisans, make our store thrive, and fulfill our mission.
Volunteer sales associates often prefer to work a regular shift every week. We ask for a minimum of two shifts per month. Shifts are typically 2.5 hours long. Promptness and dependability are crucial. If you are unable to work your scheduled shift or unable to arrive on time for a scheduled shift, please let the store manager know as soon as possible.
Volunteers create a stellar shopping experience for customers by doing the following:
There may be other duties assigned to keep the store running smoothly.
You will need to be physically able to stand and move around the shop for most of your shift. There may also be some lifting of products and boxes, and reaching for items high up or on lower shelves.
Volunteers are expected to understand and support our store mission and the basic tenets of fair trade. Volunteers should practice good communication with customers as well as with staff and other volunteers. Connecting with customers is essential, and is the best way to make their shopping experience a positive one they will want to share with friends and experience again.
