Are you passionate about affordable housing access and community development? Do you have a knack for helping people solve problems?

If so, we’d love to talk to you about joining the Accessing Home AmeriCorps team – to serve as an advocate for low-income Rhode Island families experiencing housing instability.

What We Do

The majority of Rhode Island’s renters are cost-burdened and at risk of housing instability. Accessing Home AmeriCorps members serve to alleviate the economic challenges faced by low- and middle-income households by delivering various services at non-profits and municipal organizations across Rhode Island, including:

  • Advocate for tenants at risk of eviction by negotiating payment plans and providing important resource referrals
  • Educate tenants on issues of rights and responsibilities; facilitate public educational workshops
  • Help individuals and families apply for subsidized housing
  • Provide financial coaching, including budgeting and credit help, to households looking to build wealth
  • Assist homeless individuals and families find suitable housing, build life skills, develop resumes, access job training, and obtain services
  • Educate community landlords on the Housing Choice Voucher program
  • Recruit volunteers, provide community outreach, make referrals, provide direct services, information and technical assistance
  • Create mailings, contact the media, produce newsletters, create and maintain database records and websites, organize special events
