Board Member, Treasurer

Climate Action Pathways for Schools (CAPS) is seeking board member candidates for the role of treasurer. This is a fantastic opportunity to advance climate action within K–12 Schools. In this dynamic volunteer role, the treasurer will guide CAPS financial health, develop fiscal policies and procedures, and serve as a member of the board executive leadership.

About CAPS: CAPS is an innovative and growing California-based nonprofit organization. We partner with school communities to provide inspiring climate education programs and implement local projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions while saving money for school districts. CAPS provides paid internships for high school students that help them prepare for highly skilled college and career pathways and support them in the development of projects that mitigate climate change. CAPS climate action programs serve under-resourced schools and communities that are impacted by environmental injustices.

Treasurer Duties

As the board leader of financial management and oversight, the treasurer is responsible for:

• Partnering with the board president and executive director to develop and administer CAPS annual budget 
• With staff support, preparing monthly financial statements as well as reports for the board’s review at every board meeting
• Creating policies and best practices for financial management procedures
• Developing systems for ensuring CAPS solvency
• Remaining current on regulations to ensure legal compliance
• Ensuring all state and federal tax and nonprofit compliance forms are filed by the proper due dates
