Research Fellowship (Volunteer): Water Justice in Latin America

Region360, a research and education initiative spearheaded by the Environic Foundation International (EFI)is launching a new project examining the root causes of, and potential solutions to, water injustice in Latin America under a changing climate. To further grow this program, we are looking for volunteers interested in water justice and equity research. Our research fellowship is targeted for those with advanced degrees and/or some work experience. If you are currently an undergraduate we have volunteer opportunities as Research Assistant.

This position is managed from Washington, DC, but work will be conducted remotely.

About Region360 and the Water Justice Lab

Region360 is a small collective of researchers, engineers, policy experts, and students interested in climate change and sustainability issues in Latin America. Region360 seeks to promote healthy, sustainable, and resilient societies in Latin America, particularly as climate change challenges increasingly affect vulnerable communities in the region. A multi-disciplinary, international initiative, our program promotes climate research in Latin America by both applying analytical methods and developing educational and policy initiatives. Region360 has two axes of action: 1) the development and implementation of technical methods in climate modeling, hydrology, and environmental engineering 2) qualitative policy research on SDG’s, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and sustainable economies in Latin America.

Those working in the Water Justice Lab will work with both quantitative and qualitative data, pulling from Region360’s existing work in climate modeling and policy research and developing new, comprehensive models of the factors affecting water use, distribution, and quality, among other variables. We believe that ensuring water security is not only essential to human health and flourishing under a changing climate, but that it may also be a powerful avenue for mitigating climate vulnerability; strategic, concentrated efforts to improve water security has the potential to actualize more robust climate resilience than scattered climate change mitigation efforts across axes of vulnerability.

This is a great opportunity for early career professionals to develop a keener understanding of the region while developing or enhancing research skills and deepening their knowledge of climate and policy issues in Latin America. We also invite individuals with experience living, traveling, and studying in the region who have an interest in sustainability to learn more about the program. If you are a seasoned expert with decades of experience or an advanced degree in environmental/climate change/sustainability issues and would like to support Region360, please email info@region360.org to learn about our pro-bono Senior Research Advisor opportunities.
