Habitat ReStore

In support of Habitat for Humanity GTA’s homebuilding activity, we operate a network of social enterprise home improvement stores called Habitat ReStore. Our 12 locations across the GTA procure and sell new and used donated home furnishings, appliances, and renovation materials. Proceeds from sales help cover the cost to build homes, which allows donor dollars to go directly towards our mission. The Habitat ReStore model reduces the need for the production of new furniture and further stress on our supply of natural resources. It extends the value of quality, new and used furniture and household items and limits unnecessary waste, decreasing our collective carbon footprint.

Description of Position:

The Screener and Greeter Volunteer role is a critical role and part of our COVID 19 safety protocols to ensure the safety of volunteers, staff, customers, and visitors. This role is a first point of contact for customers, and visitors, to the ReStore and follows a strict protocol. This position completes the screening with the customer and or visitor following a COVID checklist, communicates with staff, administrative support tasks as required. Volunteers must be flexible, reliable and able to volunteer during the volunteer shifts.

Duties Include:

  • Welcoming and screening of community members as they come into the ReStore
  • Inform customers and or visitors of our safety protocols
  • Monitor number of customers and visitors in ReStore to make sure we are adhering to physical distancing requirements
  • Work closely with ReStore Manager and  team to enhance the customer service experience
  • Provide cleaning of high contact surfaces.
  • Follow COVID-19 policies for health screening and sanitizing.
  • Other basic tasks may be assigned

What you need to know:

  • An on-line orientation session is required before your first volunteer shift.
  • All volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years old.
  • Volunteers under the age of 18 require a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
  • Shifts are self-scheduled via online registration. Minimum shift is 4 hours
  • Morning, afternoon and weekend shifts are available.
  • CSA approved safety shoes must be worn
