Give and Surf depends on dedicated volunteers on a year-round basis to provide educational programs to the local indigenous communities of Bocas del Toro, Panama. Volunteers will help with our preschool and/or after-school programs for 4-5 hours each day and then have the other half of the day free to explore the beautiful Bocas islands.
Panama reopened for international tourism on October 12th! Give and Surf is scheduled to resume its educational programs on January 4, 2021. Give & Surf’s education programs and thus its volunteer opportunities have been shut down for the last 7 months since March. As Panama is slowly reopening so are we as we closely follow CDC and WHO recommendations as well as reopening guidelines from the U.S. and Panama governments.
In order to ensure the highest level of safety possible both for our program participants and for visiting volunteers, we are limiting the number of volunteers and requiring a one-month minimum stay. This new “Volunteer Intern” position will be a more independent experience for volunteers. Volunteer Interns (VI) will be placed at one program site (instead of rotating between communities); this will allow the VI to build stronger relationships in the specific community they are working in as well as limit the opportunity for cross-contamination and exposure between communities. VIs will live in the Give and Surf Volunteer House or in a shared room at a local hostel near their assigned community.
No previous teaching experience required... just a love for kids and a willingness to learn. Some Spanish is helpful but not necessary.
There is a fee to volunteer which covers your accommodations, some meals, local transportation, and staff support. We can also arrange group service trips with special itineraries and service projects.
