    Description

    Art Instructor - paid

We are a non-profit regional arts organization located Downriver. Our home is a 20,000 sq ft arts center where we hold art exhibits, classes and workshops, events, concerts, dances and whatever else artists can dream up!

The Downriver Council for the Arts (DCA) presents a well-rounded artistic experience that encompasses many different fine art forms, both visual and performance-based. Our aim is to engage the community in arts and cultural experiences. We are looking for enthusiastic and creative instructors who are interested in teaching a class or workshop. We are open to all expressions and your ideas, not at all limited to visual fine arts, performing arts, health and wellness, meditative arts, etc.

We have a need for both daytime and evening activities, as well as teaching all ages.

    • Instructors are paid: 70% DCA members / 60% for non-members of total of registration fees. A yearly DCA membership costs $35 for an individual.
    • We will cover supplies, reimburse you for specialty items, or charge a material fee to registrants. We may also have some supplies on hand.
    • This experience can also equate to an internship with exchanged hours worked for university credit. We would be happy to make arrangements to accommodate this.

    Details:

    • Your class can be for any age, adults or children.
    • This can be anything from a once a month workshop, to a weekly class. You set your own schedule (we can help if you are not sure). 4-week, 6-week, 1x workshop, etc.
    • We are looking for instruction type of lessons, as well as independent study professional guidance.
    • We have 3 main areas where classes can be taught - a 6,000 sq ft auditorium (with a small stage), our main gallery which is nice for things like 'ladies night out’ workshops, and a lower level community classroom (most of our visual arts classes are taught here).

We would need to meet you in person and show you around the arts center. This position or internship is focused on providing real-world training and an out-of-classroom educational experience to those interested in pursuing a career in arts education, fine arts and studio studies, performing arts, music, childhood development, arts administration or any creative or educational field. This is also great for retirees who aren’t looking for a full-time commitment.

Additionally, we are open to online classes, although we haven’t had the resources and time to get these started. There are also opportunities to teach offsite.

Please email dc4arts@downriverarts.org with your inquiry and a brief introduction.
