Be a volunteer content creator for a new mental health storytelling nonprofit!

Volunteer Social Media Content Creator for The Better Because Project

Who we’re looking for: Two (2) volunteer social media content creators. Content creators would be part of our growing social media team, so the duties will be doable on a volunteer basis. You will have a passion for sharing mental health stories. You will create a warm and inviting community where people can connect with others and talk about mental health and post-traumatic growth. And you can serve from anywhere! Our focus is on engagement rather than reach.

The Better Because Collective is a 100% volunteer-run mental health-focused nonprofit organization founded in January 2019. We're a small team of dedicated volunteers working remotely around the world. We're passionate about supporting people in writing their personal narratives of post-traumatic growth.

  • We empower people by publishing their personal narratives of post-traumatic growth.
  • We start conversations that have the power to transform perceived views of mental health experiences.
  • We educate to create a more caring society.
  • We're a safe inclusive space that fosters healing.

Time commitment: The role is ongoing, and has a time commitment of around 4-5 hours per week as the organization grows.

Communications: We're a small team of dedicated volunteers working remotely around the world. As such, open communication and clear expectations are necessary to get things done, in a timely manner. We value your time and commitment just as much you value ours. We often use Discord to discuss and debate, and a shared mailbox for organization-related emails.

Someone who would be perfect for this role would have:

  • A passion for mental health
  • Experience working with a collaborative content calendar and content creation tools such as Canva
  • Knowledge of how to create graphics for Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. The ability to convert our stories into bite-sized content for social media audiences, including but not limited to videos and GIFs.

This volunteer would be responsible for:

  • Assist the social media manager in populating the content calendar.
  • Create and improve content for promoting our stories on social media platforms
  • Maintain our brand and style guidelines on social media platforms.
  • Keep up to date with similar organizations on social media and the way they use content to engage their audiences.

This volunteer would be skilled in:

  • Using Hootsuite, Canva, Discord, Zoom, Trello and, Google Drive
  • Written communication skills
  • Working independently and setting realistic goals and deadlines
  • Empathy, patience, and the capacity to communicate in real-time with the marketing manager who’s based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

What’s in it for you?

  • Be a part of a super cool, supportive, and inclusive team of volunteers
  • Build your personal portfolio and resume
  • Network and collaborate with our executive director, marketing manager, email marketer, accessibility expert, story editors, and website designer and developer
  • Receive a professional recommendation from the marketing manager
  • Create and support discussions about mental health and post-traumatic growth
