    Description

    Teacher Development Volunteer in Nepal

Volunteer in Nepal - Teacher Development Program

Are you passionate about education and making a positive impact in marginalized communities? ViN invites you to join our Teacher Development Project, where you can contribute to appraising teaching methods in Nepali community schools and work with teachers to implement positive change. By empowering teachers, we aim to improve the quality of education in rural areas and create a child-friendly learning environment.

Project Description and Goal: ViN’s overarching objective is to empower marginalized communities; quality education is vital in achieving this goal. In rural community schools, the quality of primary education could be higher, with many teachers needing proper training and qualifications. The predominant teaching method involves lectures and rote learning, hindering creativity and critical thinking. We aim to provide teachers in Kathmandu, Nuwakot and Okhaldhunga, our focus communities, access to effective teaching techniques that promote creativity and critical thinking in a child-friendly environment.

Your Role and Responsibilities: As a volunteer or intern in the Teacher Development Project, you will transform teaching practices and empower teachers. Your specific tasks may include:

    1. Assessment: Conduct assessments to evaluate the existing teaching methods, identify improvement areas and understand the specific needs of teachers and students.
    2. Workshops and Training: Organize and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and interactive seminars for teachers, introducing them to innovative teaching methodologies, child-centred approaches, and active learning techniques.
    3. Individual Support: Provide personal support and mentoring to teachers, helping them implement new teaching strategies and adapt their methods to create a more engaging and practical learning experience for students.
    4. Curriculum Development: Collaborate with teachers to develop creative and child-friendly curriculum materials and resources aligned with the local context and educational standards.
    5. Monitoring and Evaluation: Regularly monitor and evaluate the progress of teachers and students, tracking the impact of the implemented changes and providing constructive feedback for continuous improvement.

    Requirements:

    • Strong passion for education and empowering marginalized communities.
    • Experience in teaching, teacher training, or education-related fields is highly desirable.
    • Knowledge of child-centred teaching methodologies, active learning techniques, and curriculum development is advantageous.
    • Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work in a cross-cultural environment.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Duration and Location: The volunteer/internship duration is flexible, with a minimum commitment of 4 weeks. The project is based on the outskirts of Kathmandu, Nuwakot, and Okhaldhunga, Nepal, where you will directly work with local teachers and schools.

    Benefits:

    • Opportunity to make a lasting impact by improving the quality of education in marginalized communities.
    • Gain practical experience in teacher development, curriculum design, and education project management.
    • Immersion in Nepali culture and community, fostering cross-cultural understanding and personal growth.
    • Support and guidance from experienced local staff throughout your journey.
    • Certificate of participation and recommendation letter upon successful completion.

Join us in our mission to empower teachers and transform education in rural Nepal. Together, we can create a brighter future for children and communities.
