The Young Professionals International Network (YPIN) is a program of the World Affairs Council of Seattle. Acting as a dynamic voice on international culture and affairs in Seattle, YPIN promotes equity, inclusion, and cross cultural understanding. YPIN is led by a volunteer board of young professionals, who host more than 30 community events each year.

YPIN Board members come from a diverse range of backgrounds with a common interest in promoting global and multicultural engagement in our communities. The Board applies a global lens to local issues with the intention of creating a space for meaningful conversation on culture, politics, and belonging.

YPIN board members gain valuable project management and leadership experience. In addition, board members have many opportunities to engage in professional development activities and build impactful relationships with peers and leaders across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

The Role:

YPIN seeks collaborative, organized, and goal-oriented young professionals to serve on the board. The ideal candidate is committed to creating spaces for critical conversations about global issues. They will plan events that enrich the local community and continue growing YPIN’s membership, all proceeds of which go to the World Affairs Council’s Global Classroom Program.

Commitment Expectations:

  • YPIN board members are expected to purchase a YPIN membership ($50.00 annually) and cover retreat costs ($50.00). Sponsorships may be arranged if necessary.
  • A two-year term on the Board runs from September through August (Sept 2021-Aug 2023).

Event Planning:

Event planning is facilitated through four committees: Leadership, Culture & Current Events, Networking, and Flagship. Each board member will sit on one of the committees and be responsible for planning at least one community event per year. Other responsibilities include:

  • Each Board member is expected to actively participate in their selected committee. This may include assisting in the planning, coordinating, budgeting and execution of various events with your fellow Board members.
  • Candidates should anticipate a time commitment of approximately 5-10 hours per month, depending on the committee and planning stages of events.
  • All Board members are expected to promote YPIN events throughout the year.

Board Meetings:

  • Candidates must be able to attend board meetings on the second Tuesday of each month from 7:00 - 8:30 pm.
  • Members may not miss more than two board meetings in a calendar year.
  • All new Board members are required to attend the fall Board retreat, tentatively scheduled for September 18, 2021. Depending on public health guidance, this retreat may be virtual.

How to Apply:

Please upload your resume and cover letter at by Saturday,  July 31.

Priority will be given to applicants who apply by Wednesday, July 21st, and to those who will be able to attend board meetings and events in person (should pandemic conditions allow).

YPIN will follow up directly with qualified candidates to schedule a phone interview with one or more current Board members before the Meet & Greet Event in August. Depending on public health guidance, this event may be virtual.
