The Article 20 Network is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed to defend and advance the human right to freedom of peaceful assembly worldwide. Through direct action, education, research and legal services, the Article 20 Network encourages the proliferation of public demonstrations and fights back against obstacles and threats to our human right to peacefully assemble.
As we further implement our strategy to defend protesters' rights, we are expanding our Board of Directors.
The Board supports the work of the Article 20 Network and provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While the Executive Director (ED) leads day-to-day operations, the Board-ED relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Specific Board Member responsibilities include:
Fundraising
Board Members will consider the Article 20 Network a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. All Board Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity so they can credibly solicit contributions from individuals.
Board terms/participation
Board Members will serve a one-year term and will be eligible for reappointment. Board meetings are held quarterly, the last of which is an all-day annual meeting. Committee meetings will be held at the committee chair’s discretion. Board members are expected to participate in other events that drive the Article 20 Network’s mission, including fundraisers and an annual gala
Qualifications
This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about defending a fundamental human right, the freedom of peaceful assembly. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership stature in the global protest movement, community organizing, fundraising, philanthropy, human rights, the nonprofit sector and/or other industries related to the Article 20 Network’s strategic vision. They/their accomplishments will allow him/her to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members.
Service on the Article 20 Network’s Board of Directors is without compensation, except for administrative support, travel and accommodation costs in relation to Board Members’ duties.
