    Job Description

    Youth & Government is the premier civic engagement program for middle school and high school students in California and the US. It is comprised of the Model Legislature and Court (high school) and Model United Nations (middle school) components. The Volunteer Advisor position is the backbone of Youth & Government – without it the program would be inaccessible for students. Each year 40+ Volunteer Advisors assist in Youth & Government programs across Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Statewide, the number of volunteers is 500+ annually.  

    The Volunteer Advisor position provides the following opportunities for applicants:

    § Implement high impact programming serving 450 students annually

    § Forge strong relationships with both young people and fellow volunteers

    § Empower youth to become active participants in government and civic life

    § Network with professionals in a variety of fields from across California

    § Learn youth and leadership development principles and practices

    § Serve the community in a direct and meaningful way

    Responsibilities

    § Attend weekly delegation meetings and events

    § Attend Youth & Government conferences (virtual)

    § Supervise delegates at meetings and conferences

    § Actively engage and support all program participants

    § Assist in the planning of delegation activities

    Ideal Candidates

    § High school graduate; college graduate preferred

    § Experience working with diverse populations of youth

    § Interest in government, policy, law, civic engagement and youth development/empowerment

    § At least 21 years of age

    § Candidates must past DOJ background check
