Are you hoping to learn how to communicate effectively online, lead distance learning workshops and how to utilize digital tools to drive learning? Do you learn best by doing and interacting with others? Are you passionate about social impact and youth empowerment? Read on!

UpstartED's Facilitator Training Program is a free professional development and career advancement opportunity spanning 11 weeks. This program is first and foremost a learning opportunity for people who want to integrate facilitation techniques into their professional and personal toolkit. Due to COVID-19’s impact on the education system, for the first time in our organization's history we have been combining digital, asynchronous learning and live workshops to create the most transformative distance learning program for youth, as well as creating a community of workshop facilitators through Facilitator Training Program you're applying to today. This makes it an exciting time to learn alongside our team of learning designers and senior facilitators about how we've been combining experiential learning and volunteerism to create a unique learning experience and make a big impact on youth!

At UpstartED, facilitators work closely with our team to not only impact youth but also to acquire real world experience on social innovation at the intersection between Design Thinking, social entrepreneurship and technology. We are looking for individuals committed to making an impact!

Some things that you will be learning:

✨ How to create a safe space for conversation, creativity and innovation

🙌🏾 How to move from debate to collaboration

🖥 Finding a balance between asynchronous and synchronous learning

🚀 What is design thinking and how to facilitate design thinking workshops online

We ask facilitators to commit to 30 hours of learning that includes coaching, access to video modules, and practical experience applying their skills through UpstartED's youth-facing workshops. The people who successfully complete the program get certified by UpstartED and join our network of recommended facilitators.

NOTE: Please note that this is a free program, and that facilitators who deliver workshops during the 11-week period are volunteering their time.

You do not need an advanced degree or a specific professional background to become a facilitator! At UpstartED, we believe that any skill can be learned, given the right mindset. We are a community of learners, and we are here to empower one another.

Over the past year our program has welcomed full-time and part-time professionals, students, unemployed and in career transitions individuals. From teachers, freelance educators, designers, researchers, artists to customer service professionals, product managers, engineers and more, our facilitators work, study and have interests in a variety of industries. This is because having great facilitation skills is incredibly valuable regardless of one's industry and profession. In this program you will gain transferable skills applicable to any context you wish to grow into personally and professionally.

We strongly encourage anyone who fits the following criteria to apply:

The UpstartED team deeply understands the barriers and obstacles immigrants and refugees face in accessing the Canadian labour market and socially and economically integrating into Canadian society. We are committed to advancing the integration of newcomers and ensure that every immigrant and refugee finds opportunities to thrive and be successful in Canada.

If you are an immigrant or refugee, we strongly encourage you to apply. This program is a unique opportunity to become an effective communicator in online spaces, gain practical knowledge, experience and an increased sense of confidence as well as a welcoming and supportive network and community.
