Several opportunities await you at the Monrovia Historical Museum! Find the role that fits your skills, personality, available time, and your passions. All positions are un-paid volunteers. A light background check will be conducted for all applicants.
Please stop by the Museum on a Sunday or Thursday between 1:00 and 4:00pm to talk with one of our Board Members BEFORE submitting an application to volunteer. We will give you a tour of the museum and archive opportunities.
Docent: The most public-facing role at the Museum is the Docent. Docents provide visitors a tour of the Monrovia Historical Museum. You will learn about the exhibits, and some of the stories that create our rich history. New docents will work with a Board Member until they feel comfortable on their own. Shifts are Sunday and/or Thursday, 12:30-4:00, and/or special event days and hosted group tours on other days. Shifts involve: preparing the museum for opening, greeting and guiding visitors through the museum, answering questions about the objects in the museum, closing, and occasional light cleaning or clerical tasks on slow days.
Archivist, Researcher and More: In addition to Docents, the Museum has ongoing needs for volunteers to help with archiving (photographing, cataloging, and preserving artifacts), research, newsletter writing, assisting with exhibits, educational programs, and administrative assistance.
