Disaster Shelter Worker

A life-changing opportunity to help others during disasters!! The American Red Cross is dedicated to helping people recover from devastating disasters. YOU can help by volunteering!

Duties:

*Boots on the ground at large disaster sites, often requiring travel. Ex: Hurricanes on the Gulf Coast & wildfires on the West Coast.

*Provide comfort to clients in shelters.

*Distribute meals & information efficiently.

*Comfortable working with staff and clients from different backgrounds.

Qualifications:

18+

*Ability to lift / carry 20 lbs. multiple times per shift.

*Ability to stand and/or sit for two-hour periods and walk for two miles during a shift.

*Valid Driver’s License.

Time Commitment: 

Typically a 2-week deployment, working full shifts each day.

The hours are long. The work is hard. The experience will change you forever.

Training:

Four hours for Shelter Service Associate.

Supervisor status earned with more training & experience.
