Description
Companionship Volunteer
Location: Blount County
Commitment: 1–2 hours per month
Reports To: Volunteer Coordinator
Companionship (a.k.a Direct Care) Volunteers support hospice patients and families through companionship and social interaction.
Basically, you get to be someone's friend. It's as easy as showing up and watching a movie or playing bingo!
This role is perfect for people that like to give hugs, spread joy, play board games, craft, or chitchat.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Visiting patients and filling out a visit note
- Making weekly calls to families to check whether they need medical supplies or prescription refills (*as applicable, can be done in office)
- Keeping clear and open communication with the Volunteer Coordinator regarding patient needs or changes
- Maintaining confidentiality and upholding hospice care standards
Qualifications:
- 18 years or older
- Strong listening skills and a desire for meaningful connection
- Ability to complete background check, drug, and Tuberculosis screen
- Reliable transportation
- Willingness to complete provided training and orientation
- Former healthcare experience is NOT required, but a huge bonus
