Members will carry out research of past flood events in the area as well as outreach methods currently used by city agencies to see how they address equity and where they can be improved. Associates will also engage impacted community members to gather various types of data, including photographs and first-hand accounts. Coordination between stakeholders as well as other city agencies will also be a key part of the VISTAs role to expand our outreach capabilities. Members will document and organize data into a final report to include overall results from engagements and any meaningful differences noted across various groups or locations as well as recommendations for better incorporating equity into our outreach and response.

The goal of this program will be to increase engagement and provide outreach to low-income, vulnerable community members and stakeholders in four areas of Baltimore frequently impacted by flooding. Activities will range from research and analysis of past flood events/disasters, engaging with local residents, establishing relationships with stakeholders, and creating a final report for future recommendations. It is our hope that the Summer Associates under our Office of Compliance and Research can strengthen our capacity to identify issues plaguing the city's most vulnerable neighborhoods and apply a greater equity lens to our operations moving forward.
