Activities Coordinator

Project Play is advertising for a new, paid project coordinator to join our small team of volunteers on the ground in northern France in March 2021!

Are you passionate about every child’s right to play and education? Are you a speaker of Sorani Kurdish, Arabic, Farsi or French? Do you have a background in project management, youth work and/or education and want to stand in solidarity with the families living in transit on the France-UK border? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, please consider applying to be Project Play's next Activities Coordinator!

Project Play is a grassroots organisation facilitating structured play sessions for children who are living in informal migrant camps and accommodation centres across Calais, Grande-Synthe and the surrounding regions. Our sessions are designed to facilitate a safe space in which children coming through northern France can build resilience, develop key developmental skills, and create positive memories for themselves. Through offering psychosocial support, our team works to assist children and their families in minimising the impact of toxic stress, trauma and ongoing adversity.

As Activities Coordinator at Project Play, your work would involve project management responsibilities shared with the rest of the four-person coordination team, and role-specific responsiblities oriented around the development of our session curriculum. Amongst others, these role-specific responsibilities may include:

  1. Researching, designing, and implementing activities for us to run on session which target key areas of development, including activities specifically targeting the mitigation of trauma and toxic stress.
  2. Leading team meetings, including our Monday morning “Session Planning Meeting”. It is at this time each week that we collectively decide what activities shall be run on session across the next six days.
  3. Delivering training to our team of volunteers on a range of topics, including Behaviour Management, Fieldwork, and Activities Planning.
  4. Integrating culturally reflective activities and practices into our sessions.
  5. Actively and continuously communicating with the individuals that use our service and implementing their feedback into the way we work.
  6. Writing both our Weekly Reports and our Monthly Reports, items which are used by Project Play to share information with our partners and apply for financial support.
  7. Maintaining appropriate levels of stock: making sure that we have necessary resources in our warehouse and that any excess is donated elsewhere.

Please only apply for this position if you...

  1. Are fluent in either Sorani Kurdish, Arabic, Farsi or French.
  2. Have experience in project and/or team management.
  3. Have experience designing and implementing activities for children.
  4. Have an understanding of the impact of toxic stress and/or trauma on early years development.
  5. Are over the age of 21.
  6. Can commit to a mimum of 7 months working with us on the ground in northern France.
  7. Are able to deal with stressful situations and working in a challenging context, whilst simultaneously offering stability and support to the remainder of the Project Play team.
