Land Work Trader at Lost Valley Education & Events Center

Lost Valley Educational Center is looking for one more land work trader to join our land team at Lost Valley this year! We are looking for dedicated and passionate land tenders who want to live in community. This is a great role for someone with some experience in forestry, landscaping, agriculture, and/or wildland fire-fighting. The land work trade role works with the Land Circle to accomplish our land conservation and restoration goals as well as doing fire mitigation, agroforestry, and orcharding/food forest maintenance.

The role requires the ability to perform long hikes in the forest and some strenuous physical

labor. We are looking for 18 hours a week with a three month commitment. This can be extended if both parties are amenable.

Lost Valley is a thriving intergenerational community, we are doing our best to be a consent

based, queer friendly, and antiracist space, if you anticipate any of these things being a

challenge this is not going to be a good fit.

Other things to note: this is an alcohol restricted

campus, public drinking and drunkenness are not tolerated. Also we are not a safe haven for

anti-maskers, you will be required to follow the community protocols around masking,

quarantining, and social distancing, these protocols are subject to change as Oregon and the

CDC direct. You will also need to pass a background check before we will move forward with an

interview.

Living in community can be immensely challenging at times, having some strong interpersonal

skills such as conflict resolution and non-violent communication will be valuable. Please read

the Community Living Agreements carefully as they will apply to you.

There are many opportunities for paid work if you are a good fit. We have several onsite

businesses and opportunities to work for neighbors or get job referrals from folks onsite.

Although we are not accepting many new residents, our work trade program is a great way to

get a taste of community living and see if living at Lost Valley is a good mutual fit. Successful

work traders are a shoo in for becoming residents.

The work week will consist of two, four hour work parties (Tuesday and Saturday mornings) plus other projects as directed by the land steward. As skill and competence are demonstrated there will be opportunities for self directed projects that align with your own interests and experience.

Don’t let this ad scare you too much, we have a lot of fun here! Once integrated into the

community we play games and have meals together, educational workshops are often available

for little or no cost, and you will have access to an 88 acre campus with a wood fired sauna,

swimming holes, fruit trees, fresh produce, and more.
