About the Volunteer Driver Program

The Ride-and-Go Volunteer Driver Program an innovative volunteer driver program that provides door-through-door assisted transportation to seniors aged 60 and older and individuals with disabilities. The program provides volunteer drivers to transport individuals who need transportation to and from non-emergency medical appointment, religious activities, personal errands, family/friend visits, social activities, and much more. Ride & Go is more than a ride. It is a way to fuel connection, independence, and mobility. 

This is a service provided only in Los Angeles County to the 10 cities below:

Azusa, Claremont, Covina, Diamond Bar, Glendora, La Verne, Pomona, San Dimas, Walnut , West Covina

PURPOSE OF VOLUNTEER:

Volunteer drivers utilize their personal vehicles to provide these rides for older adults. Volunteers are able to provide safe and reliable transportation ensuring that these riders remain active, healthy, and connected to their community.

VOLUNTEER DUTIES:

  • Volunteer will be a careful and responsible driver
  • Volunteer must attend orientation and training.
  • Volunteer will accept rides that work best for you through Ride Scheduler system
  • Volunteer will meet requests promptly as assigned
  • Volunteer will go to the rider’s door and assist them to the vehicle and assist them to their door upon returning home
  • Volunteer will call Volunteer Coordinator immediately if unable to keep an assigned request
  • Volunteer will report any problems stemming from a transportation assignment immediately
  • Volunteer will maintain a clean, upkeep vehicle and observe “rules of the road”.
  • While use is not permitted while on duty, a cell phone should be carried by all drivers at all times in case of emergency

VOLUNTEER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 25 years of age or older
  • Possess your own vehicle
  • Must have a current driver's license and good driving record (no moving violation, suspension or at fault accidents in the last five years)
  • Must have auto insurance coverage (Although secondary insurance coverage will be provided by the organization)
  • Must maintain vehicle in good working condition
  • Must have access to a phone and/or computer

REQUIRED COMMITMENTS:

  • Must follow Statement of Understanding and Volunteer Driver Do's and Don'ts
  • Enjoy being with people and have a desire to help with transportation of individuals with needs for special transportation
  • Attend a volunteer driver orientation/training
