"When I look into the eyes of an animal. I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend. I see a soul."-A.D. Williams
At Caretenders Hospice, we understand that volunteers are important for end-of-life care. Our volunteers and their pets make connections with terminally ill people who need a hand to hold, a heart to listen, and fur to scratch.
Research has shown that petting dogs lowers stress levels and promotes relaxation. Dog visits help "break the ice" when meeting new people and can make the environment feel more like home. Would you and your dog like to make the day brighter for a terminally ill resident?
Our companion dogs must be Certified Therapy dogs and be up to date with all vaccinations.
Hospice volunteers are treated as a part of the hospice care team and are many times involved with creating patient visit plans. Volunteers help our residents spend their last days in comfort by giving laughter, friendship, entertainment, and companionship.
We are currently looking for volunteers to visit people in the Metro Area: Edina, Eden Prairie, Plymouth, Maple Grove, North Oaks, and other surrounding areas. Most volunteers spend 2-4 hours/week visiting with our residents when it is best for both volunteer and resident.
Could you be who we are looking for? Join our Pals on Paws Team!
Dana, our Volunteer Manager, would love to hear from you!
