Are you a non-diet dietitian who is passionate about helping people recover from disordered eating? Rock Recovery, a DC-based nonprofit that strives to help all people overcome disordered eating, is in need of volunteer support!

Rock Recovery's mission is to support the journey to freedom from disordered eating through holistic and affordable recovery services and community empowerment events and education. We break barriers of cost, isolation, access and stigma to help more people get the care they need to recover.

Rock Recovery offers two robust and unique meal support therapy groups - Bridge to Life (three hour weekly program) and Breaking Bread (two hour weekly program). All programs are currently virtual due to COVID-19. Our meal support programs bridge the gap between intensive and outpatient care for people struggling with disordered eating. These programs uniquely combine clinical and peer support and includes a weekly two or three-hour session with a supportive meal, group therapy, mentorship, goal setting and optional spiritual services (such as healing prayer and spiritual direction with a Chaplain).

To provide the most affordable care for our clients, we are currently seeking volunteer Dietitians to work 5 - 10 hours per month assisting with the nutrition component of one or both of our weekly Bridge to Life Recovery or Breaking Bread meal support programs, including planning and facilitating group meals.

The Role

Dietitians will work in close coordination with the Program Director and Program Therapists to ensure that clients are receiving proper nutrition and meals each week. Our goal for group meals is to challenge our clients' food rules and fears in a supportive environment, while modeling healthy and intuitive eating. Dietitian responsibilities include working with the treatment team to plan and coordinate weekly meals that are appropriate and challenging, leading a group meal with clients at the Virginia or DC location at least one time each month where you provide nutrition education and guidance to clients in a group setting (effective goal-setting, redirection, hunger-fullness evaluation, and meal processing).

Dietitians will communicate and coordinate with clients’ treatment team as needed to ensure effective goal-setting and recovery activities are conducted within the program, attend monthly treatment team meetings, chart clients’ progress and maintain appropriate contact with the Program Director. Dietitians will also consult on prospective clients’ appropriateness for the program as needed during the intake process based on dietary behavior and needs.

Position Requirements

We are seeking a candidate who exemplifies Rock Recovery’s values and is comfortable with supporting Rock Recovery as a Christian-based organization providing services to people regardless of their beliefs, background or religious identification.

Candidates must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics or a related field to be considered. Candidates with a masters degree who are licensed Registered Dietitians are preferred.

Candidates must have an understanding of the dietary needs and goals of individuals struggling with disordered eating and the ability to support Rock Recovery’s All Foods Fit nutritional philosophy. Successful candidates must be able to identify and resolve complex problems, set appropriate performance expectations and provide appropriate guidance and support to volunteers, and be able to effectively use current computers, software and online resources.
