    Description

    Position Summary: Key Responsibilities

    The Finance Committee provides financial analysis, advice, and oversight of the organization's budget through:

    • Review information and apply critical thinking to outcomes.
    • Come prepared for meetings with knowledge of current reports, projects, etc.
    • Assists with annual budget creation in Q3 for approval by Executive Committee (EC).
    • Identifies Grants and Fee for Service opportunities; applies for such as directed, works with other committees if needed (such as DEAI, membership, etc).
    • Propose, document and review financial policies, procedures and processes if directed.
    • Support a strategy for annual giving campaign for board and general membership. Help articulate needs and outcomes for donations.
    • Assists if needed with sponsorships or in-kind donations with direction from EC, Board or committees.
    • AL!VE committees work towards the organizational strategic goals, and for the benefit of our members. While serving on a committee, your focus will include advancing AL!VE's mission and goals.
    • Identifies and collaborates or leads completion of a project. If collaborating on a project, makes a reasonable effort to attend all meetings about the project, or complete individual work in a timely manner.
    • If leading a project, reports on project progress at committee meetings. If unable to attend a committee meeting, updates the chair or designates a speaker.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Time Commitment:

    • New Committee members are welcomed to join on a quarterly basis, with their first meeting taking place in January, April, July, and October.
    • Committee members will complete an AL!VE orientation prior to their first committee meeting.
    • Committee members will meet with the committee chair prior to their first committee meeting.
    • This is a working committee, and all members contribute their time and efforts.
    • The committee shall meet at least monthly at an agreed upon place and time, usually via conference call or web-based technology.
    • Committee members will be expected to attend at least half of the committee meetings each calendar year.
    • Committee members will be expected to attend at least one committee meeting per quarter.
    • Committee meetings, special projects, and committee work of up to 5 hours a month.

    Qualifications:

    • Interest in supporting at least one project of the committee.
    • Committee members must have a working understanding of AL!VE and its members, as well as professional experience in nonprofits, government agencies, and/or corporate social responsibility, and ideally in professional experience in volunteer engagement.
    • Committees may invite consultants, trainers, lecturers, or advisors from outside the nonprofit sector to participate as needed.
    • Committee members must also be AL!VE members in order to cast a vote in committee decisions.
    • Knowledge of nonprofit financial systems helpful but not required.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Able to research, report or create financial systems, grants, procedures, etc.
    • Available for active participation.
    • Willingness to speak up and offer perspectives that may be missing from the conversations and being open to other perspectives in order to come to consensus (i.e., participants come to an agreement/compromise on a decision everyone can live with).
