Detroit VITALS (Virtual Intersystem Telemedicine and Lifestyle Services) free clinic is seeking volunteers to apply for the Board of Directors President position for our organization. Serving as the face of the organization, the Board President assists the Executive Director in various capacities, including oversight of organization finances, vision, mission, staffing, and long-term goal setting. Persons serving as Board President will have a limited term; initial term likely two years. The president will regularly convene, lead, and execute board meetings as well as responsibilities detailed below. We are looking for persons who have extensive leadership experience and have demonstrated success as a committee chair or board member, and/or experience in building nonprofit sectors.
Supervision of Staff
The Board President will supervise and provide guidance to the Executive Director who in turn provides day-to-day supervision for clinic needs. The Executive Director will request advice and counsel from the Board President in the event of high-profile issues.
The Board President leads the organization in strategic planning. In consultation with the Executive Director and board members, the Board President sets short- and long-term goals to ensure the organization stays mission-centered and patient outcome-oriented.
Assessment and Evaluation
The Board President is responsible for tracking organizational progress and evaluating the completion of established goals. This usually involves a full assessment of organizational needs, reviewing financial statements and digging deeper into community needs. Regular assessment and evaluation will assist the governing board in long-range planning.
Detroit VITALS free clinic will be structured as a non-profit company and will rely on external fundraising to build organizational capacity and embark on capital and operating projects. The Board President leads fundraising efforts and coordinates special finance campaigns. This often involves meeting with individual donors, seeking the support of corporate sponsorship and tapping organizational constituents for individual donations.
All board of directors, including Board of Director President, will be expected to follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions. They will also be required to sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings. Lastly, all board of directors will be required to maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of Detroit VITALS free clinic.
