About Engage Estero
Engage Estero (EE) is a civic association focused on clear, unbiased, solutions-oriented communication around the issues that shape daily life in Estero - safety, village development, traffic, environment, and health. We help residents stay informed and engaged in a constructive way.
Role Summary
We are looking for a volunteer to attend community events and capture engaging, human-centered social media content - photos, short video clips, and captions - that make Engage Estero feel personal and approachable. The goal is to spark real conversation with the community, highlight local partners and progress, and encourage questions and participation.
What You'll Do
Event Coverage (Primary)
- Attend EE and community partner events to capture high-quality photos and short video clips (phone is fine).
- Identify people moments that show the community behind the issues (volunteers, speakers, residents, local leaders).
Content Creation
- Write captions that are warm, clear, and community-friendly - designed to invite comments, questions, and dialogue.
- Create simple on-brand assets when needed (basic Canva graphics, quote cards, event recap slides).
Publishing Support
- Provide your photos/videos and suggested captions to the communications lead for posting.
- Work within EE's scheduling workflow (EE uses scheduling software - no need to manually post in real time unless requested).
Community Conversation (Light Engagement)
- Help surface community questions or themes you notice at events (what people are asking, concerns raised, ideas shared).
- Flag any sensitive items to the communications lead for appropriate follow-up.
Platforms
- Content may be used across EE's social channels (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, LinkedIn), depending on the audience and message.
Skills & Qualifications
Required
- Comfortable attending events and interacting professionally with community members.
- Strong writing skills (captions that are clear, accurate, and inviting).
- Ability to take well-composed photos and short clips with a smartphone.
- Reliability and responsiveness around event days.
Preferred
- Familiarity with Estero/SWFL community and local organizations.
- Basic Canva experience (nice-to-have, not required).
- Good people instincts and discretion (knowing what's appropriate to capture/share).
Training & Support
- Onboarding, brand tone guidance, and examples of strong EE posts provided.
- Simple photo/caption checklist for events.
- Clear escalation path for sensitive topics or misinformation.
What Success Looks Like
- EE's social presence feels more human, local, and personal.
- Posts consistently prompt meaningful comments, questions, and constructive conversation.
- Events are captured in a way that highlights community partners, progress, and participation.
How to Apply
- A brief note about your interest in EE and Estero community engagement.
- Any examples of photos, captions, or social posts you've created (optional but helpful).
- Your general availability (weekday evenings / weekends) and whether you can attend events in Estero.
