Positive Planet in the US is a non-profit organization created 22 years ago By Jacques Attali, a French economist, author, and professor, whose mission is to make the world more positive economically, socially, environmentally, and democratically. We are helping underserved communities, independent of their color, gender, or background, to create their jobs through entrepreneurship. The impact is enormous and natural: 11 million Beneficiaries all across the globe since creation.

Positive Planet has expanded to the United States. We are forming a new diverse team of volunteers with a mission to give the underprivileged the means to become entrepreneurs and create a buoyant economy.

Job Description:

The Volunteer WordPress Developer will be responsible for front-end and back-end development - everything from plugins to security updates. In addition, WordPress Developers will establish and guide website architecture, so PPUS sites are attractive and user-friendly!

Job Responsibilities:

• Designing and implementing new features and functionality
• Establishing and guiding the website’s architecture
• Ensuring high-performance and availability and managing all technical aspects of the CMS
• Helping formulate an effective, responsive design and turning it into a working theme and plugin
• Design, implement and manage websites using WordPress
• Collaborate with members of the Marketing team
• Manage front-end and back-end website development
• Create WordPress plugins and themes
• Maintain well-documented, reusable, and transferrable code
• Troubleshoot and resolve website problems
• Stay abreast of new developments in software, trends, and practices

Job Qualifications:

• Proficiency using WordPress
• Expertise in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery
• Experience using debugging tools such as Firebug and Chrome Inspector
• Strong understanding of front-end and back-end website development
• Keen attention to detail
• Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages
• Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML)
• Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git, SVN, and Mercurial
• Strong knowledge of PHP back-end development
