Job Overview: The Accountant participates in the responsibility of the financial management of nonprofit organizations according to specialized financial rules that pertain to nonprofit organizations exclusively. Their responsibilities include monthly reconciliations like accounts payable and receivable, bank and investment accounts, and expense accounts.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • The Accountant is expected to reflect Mission1Race’s values and messaging.
  • The Accountant prepares materials for and attends Finance Committee meetings.
  • The Accountant assists in the annual budgeting process.
  • The Accountant is involved in all the paths and journeys. However, the Accountant falls under M1Path.
  • The Accountant assists with strategic budgets for long/short term planning for the organization.
  • The Accountant assists with financial models and other projects as needed.
  • The Accountant assists in the annual financial and any other audits as required.
  • The Accountant manages all insurance policies (workers compensation, general liability, D&O, etc.).
  • The Accountant performs twice weekly back­ups for the QuickBooks system.
  • The Accountant process 1099 forms and other forms relevant to the organization.
  • The Accountant reviews and reports submissions to all funding partners as required.
  • The Accountant works closely with the staff on budgets, projections, and other grant-related procedures.
  • The Accountant will respond to all regular communications within 48 hours.
  • The Accountant will respond to all high-priority outreach within 24 hours.
  • The Accountant will attend the Mission Executive Board, Member Advisory Council, and All Chair meetings.

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 3 or more years related experience preferred.
  • Non­profit experience preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of non­profit accounting standards, FASB 116 & 117 preferred but not required (willing to learn).
  • High-level strategic thinking and planning.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team player with a positive attitude and the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks accounting systems preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking ability.
  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.


Physical Responsibilities and Duties:

  • This position requires 8 – 12 hours a week of donated hours.
  • Frequent typing and writing are customary.
  • Bending and twisting could occur at times.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at certain times.
  • Strong public speaking ability.
