The WhyHunger Find Food Database is the most comprehensive database in the country, designed to improve access to nutritious food in low-income communities. We provide information in both English and Spanish on local food pantries, soup kitchens, senior food box sites, and more for people experiencing hunger so that they will be able to access food immediately.

During the month of April, the busiest point of the Covid-19 pandemic, we worked harder than ever to connect over 53,600 aggregate users (of our call line, texting service, and database) with resources and information on food sites in their area, including pop-up government and community-based initiatives that emerged during this crisis. 3,040 of these users were direct callers, an 850% increase from January of the same year.

As food resources are constantly changing, now more than ever, maintenance of the database requires a team of volunteers personally invested in ensuring food access for people experiencing hunger.

Volunteers can verify sites from the comfort of their own homes, on their own schedule - all you need is access to the internet and a cell phone.
