Coach

A Girls on the Run Coach works with a team of fellow coaches to deliver the Girls on the Run curriculum to a group of 8-15 program participants. A head coach works closely with the Program Coordinator and serves as the primary point of contact for parents/guardians of the girls on her team. Throughout the season, the head and assistant coaches serve as a role models, exhibiting healthy lifestyles and positive attitudes. Most importantly, our coaches have fun with the girls and encourage positive behaviors.


Coaching opportunities are available throughout program sites in Hunterdon, and Warren Counties, New Jersey, and in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Virtual opportunities available.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and deliver/supervise 75-90 minute lessons twice per week for 8 weeks, starting the week of March 15th (complete lesson plans provided by Girls on the Run)
  • Deliver Girls on the Run lessons in a manner consistent with GOTR philosophy and curricula
  • Serve as a role model for the girls by being on time, listening attentively, having a positive demeanor and outlook, and leading a healthy lifestyle
  • Manage team and coach schedules and communications
  • Interact and facilitate communication with parents/guardians of program participants
  • Serve as a role model for program participants
  • Assist with all aspects of the facilitation of weekly lessons
  • Collaborate with other coaches for successful lesson delivery
  • Encourage girls and participate in games and workouts with the girls
  • Plan and coordinate an end of season celebration
  • Plan and coordinate a community service project
  • Attend end of the season 5K run and encourage the girls' participation
  • Attend regularly scheduled coaches meetings
  • Be yourself...and have fun!


Time Commitment:

  • Complete online coach training (new coaches) or a coach refresher session (returning coaches) prior to the start of the season
  • Attend virtual meeting for new coaches prior to the start of the season
  • Prepare for delivery of lessons (typically 15-30 minutes to read through and plan)
  • Attend and lead or supervise two lessons a week for 8 weeks (plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to the lesson start and remain until all girls are picked up or delivered to aftercare)
  • Attend a First Aid and CPR certification course, if necessary
  • Attend and/or participate in the end of season 5K event
  • Plan and execute an end-of-season team celebration


Requirements:

  • Head coaches must be female, over the age of 21, and CPR & First Aid certified
  • Assistant coaches must be 18 or over
  • Junior Coach must be 16-18 years old
  • Must complete an application and non-compete form
  • Must submit to a criminal background check in accordance with GOTR policy and state and local ordinances
  • Pennsylvania coaches must submit copies of all required Pennsylvania volunteer clearances: State Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse History Clearance, and fingerprinting results. Girls on the Run will reimburse the cost of fingerprinting with original receipts. The other two Pennsylvania clearances are free to volunteers.
  • New Jersey coaches must submit to fingerprinting if they are coaching at a site or a school district which requires fingerprinting of its volunteers. Girls on the Run will reimburse the cost of fingerprinting with original receipts. 
  • Must complete a full coach training or refresher session
