The goal of the project: To increase the organizational capacity of partnering organizations that serve low-income communities and families. The VISTA will develop policies, procedures, and programming that result in improved university-community project operations and effectiveness. By building long-term sustainability and enhancing the positive impact of Samford University’s community partnerships, this VISTA member will support the growing number of Mann Center initiatives that engage university students and employees.


Member Duties: The VISTA will Develop outreach activities, cultivate strategies and pathways to engage students and employees in service opportunities in Birmingham. They will coordinate volunteers to strengthen the ability of various initiatives to sustain their efforts. The Outreach and Engagement Fellow will coordinate and cultivate strategies to build relationships with external partners. They will also coordinate and document student participation in existing Mann Center projects and assess project outcomes. 


Program Benefits: Living Allowance ($513.94 every two weeks), Relocation Allowance ($750), Childcare assistance if eligible, Education award around $6000 (Changes based on the Federal Pell Grant)/End of Service Stipend ($1800), Monthly stipend ($300),  Health Coverage*.
