Volunteer Policy Advocate

Position Overview: Gender Freedom Society is seeking passionate and dedicated people to serve as a Policy Advocates, focusing on issues affecting the transgender/GNC community. Policy Advocates play a crucial role in advancing our advocacy efforts by raising awareness about transgender rights and promoting policies that support the needs of transgender individuals.

Responsibilities:

1. Policy Research: Conduct research on local, national, and international policies affecting the transgender community, including healthcare access, legal rights, employment discrimination, and social services.
2. Advocacy Campaigns: Develop and implement advocacy campaigns to promote transgender rights and raise awareness about issues facing transgender individuals. This may include organizing petitions, letter-writing campaigns, and community outreach initiatives.
3. Coalition Building: Collaborate with other organizations, advocacy groups, and community leaders to build coalitions and support collective advocacy efforts on behalf of the transgender community.
4. Legislative Advocacy: Monitor legislative developments related to transgender rights and work to influence policymakers through advocacy meetings, public hearings, and legislative advocacy strategies.
5. Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, legislative staff, and government agencies
6. Public Education: Develop educational materials and resources to increase understanding and awareness of transgender issues among the general public, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
7. Community Engagement: Engage with transgender individuals and community organizations to understand their needs, concerns, and priorities, and ensure that advocacy efforts are responsive to community voices.
8. Present research findings in written and verbal formats to policymakers, partners, and the public
9. Support grant writing or reporting by providing updates on policy work and impact metrics

Qualifications:

• Passion for social justice and a commitment to advancing transgender rights and equality.
• Strong understanding of issues affecting the transgender community, including healthcare access, legal rights, employment discrimination, and social stigma.
• Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
• Experience in advocacy, community organizing, or related fields is preferred but not required.
