Who We Are:
Harlem Dowling-West Side Center for Children and Family Services has a proud history of service since 1836. It is the remaining entity of the Colored Orphan’s Asylum, this city’s and the nation's first institution to serve the needs of orphaned black children.
Our modern mission is to develop the confidence, academic skills, and adult/family support that enables the children we serve to become responsible, self-sufficient adults. This is currently being achieved through our After School Programs that support academic and social development and our Family Support Programs that keep vulnerable children safe in their families with supervision, education and connection to a wide range of supportive services for all family members.
We were recently recognized with a New York State Senate 2020 Empire Award for how well our staff members continued to serve and surround our children and families with much needed services and resources during the COVID-19 pandemic.
