Help Newcomer Students Succeed--Be A Conversation Partner

Newcomer students are being hit hard during COVID. With schools closed and all instruction online they don't have nearly the opportunities they normally have to practice their English speaking skills. Being isolated at home, as all of us are, means they have very few opportunities to interact with anyone other than family members, most of whom speak very little English.

We are looking for volunteers who can meet with a newcomer student virtually, one hour a week, to "just chat". You don't need to be bilingual. We'll train you so you know how to direct your conversations and make an easy connection with your student.

Initial matches will be with upper-division Mission High School newcomer students but in time we are hoping to expand the program to other schools and other grade levels.
