Summer Legal Volunteer Opportunity

CLA seeks a motivated first- or second-year law student to serve as our Summer Legal Volunteer. The ideal candidate understands CLA's mission and has a passion for social justice and an interest in pursuing a public interest legal career. Fluency in a second language, especially Spanish, is preferred, but not required. An interest in immigration law is a plus. CLA’s Summer Legal Volunteer will get substantial hands-on experience and will conduct legal research and writing, assist with client intakes and casework, and participate in CLA's Know-Your-Rights legal presentations. Other duties may include some data entry and other functions, as needed. CLA is taking appropriate safety precautions in light of COVID. Consistent with these precautions, the ideal volunteer candidate will be available to come to CLA’s office periodically, but we will also consider remote volunteers.

Community Legal Advocates of New York (CLA) is a non-profit law firm based on Long Island that is dedicated to closing the social justice gap by advancing the legal rights of low- and moderate-income clients. Under our innovate model, CLA provides both free and low cost civil legal services to residents of Long Island and New York City. CLA helps clients with a variety of legal matters, including immigration, guardianships for adult disabled children and advance planning.
